Ancient History Video Shoot, Bushwick – Part 2
Still in Bushwick…Lots of little ghosts waiting on deck during the shoot. Sami takes a load off.

The lineup. I’m shooting this while in ghost costume. It took me forever to get my hands free from the endless layers of fabric in that getup.
In between takes, I got restless and bossed Sami around to pose for me on ridiculous objects. She’s such a sport and an absolute glammapus.
Donald dukes it out for the camera.
Rachael’s still fighting with the leading man and leaving him in a huff of glamor. I tell you, heartbreak sells records, people!!!
Down in the brickyard….utter gorgeousness.
“Hey, Sami, go sit over there on top of that pile of rusty fencing and lean back for me, will ya?” I cannot express how much of a good sport this girl is…total Little Sister Syndrome…I guarantee this has been the scene her entire life- getting dressed up and propped up in places, being the guinnea pig. We love ya for it, Sami!
I had a great day with the ladies and the crew shooting for Ancient History. In case you’re wondering, the video has a bit of a love/conflict story juxtaposed with some imagery involving ghosts (yours truly) and a construction yard. I honestly had no idea what the concept and I left halfway through shooting so it will be very interesting to see the finished product. A big thanks to Donald and Ancient History for letting me tag along. Good luck!

The key to a healthy relationship is healthy competition. Rachael vs Wallace. It came down to the wire here.
I don’t know how invented a bar game that involves math. I keep rolling and just wait until someone at the table adds up my turn for me. And I took calculus twice so I should be able to add at the very least. Go figure.
Love you, Sami.

Meanwhile, back at the Velascos….my Dad’s working 2 grills and having epic meltdowns in the rain. With 12 hungry people, 2 testy grills from Benny’s, and a downpour, the pressure was on my Dad to get the job done before the coyotes came out.
This I love. My Stepmother’s drinking champagne and laughing at my father. The key to a successful marriage is a gigantic sense of humor and even bigger stashes of booze.

All there was left was the stillness of the desert, the sinking sun, and the steady trot of his desert boots zig zagging the landscape.
The sun sank like a stone past the horizon, casting long shadows on the desert floor and turning the sky into a warm array of pastels. It was perfect.
We left the desert tired, happy, and content.

The Joshua Tree is a yucca tree native to southwestern North America. The name Joshua Tree was given to it by Mormon settlers who thought the tree’s unique shape mimicked a biblical story in which Joshua reaches his hands up to the sky in prayer.
I don’t doubt it. As arid as a desert can be, this place is an utter celebration of beauty in nature.
What struck me were the rocks. Humungous boulders, impossibly stacked on top of each other dominate the landscape. Their positioning seemed to be physically impossible.
According to my park map, most of this stuff is granite. Yeah, your kitchen countertops are the stame stuff as this rock here. Logan eyes up a slab to take home to LA.
Lots of natural caves formed by adjoining boulders. This was the first of many dangerous caves I’d lead us into during the trip. Such a city slicker!
Logan and I do the Kid N Play while the sun starts to go down…stay tuned for sunset photos!
